Heath Ledger

I regret to inform you that terrible news has just been released. Both the Associated Press and the New York City Police Department have confirmed that Australian-born actor, Heath Ledger, has died. People.com reports:

Heath Ledger was found dead at his New York residence, a police spokesman has confirmed to the Associated Press."

Also, Wikipedia has already listed him as deceased. Specifically, Wikipedia.org writes:

According to the New York City Police Department, Heath Ledger was found dead in his apartment in downtown Manhattan on January 22, 2008.

At 3:31 p.m., a masseuse arrived at Apartment 5A in the building for an appointment with Mr. Ledger, the police said. The masseuse was let in to the home by a housekeeper, who then knocked on the door of Mr. Ledger’s bedroom. When no one answered, the housekeeper and the masseuse opened the bedroom and found Mr. Ledger unconscious. They shook him, but he did not respond. They immediately called the authorities. The police said they did not suspect foul play and said they found pills near body."

Although it appears to be possibly suicide or overdose related based on the circumstances, we cannot say, at the moment, exactly how and why this tragedy has occurred. Surely, we will keep you up-to-date on further details as they become available. Our sincere thoughts are with Heath's family.

UPDATE: The New York Times has now reported that the apartment that Ledger was found in actually belongs to actress Mary-Kate Olsen. Specifically, The Times reports:

The actor Heath Ledger was found dead this afternoon in an apartment in Manhattan inhabited by the actress Mary-Kate Olsen, according to the New York City police. Signs pointed to a suicide, police sources said. Mr. Ledger was 28."

We will continue to keep you updated as more information with respect to this tragedy becomes available.
