It seems like everywhere I look this morning, everyone is celebrating the life of Heath Ledger, and, really, that's the way it should be. A young man who has a love for both his craft and his life as Heath did, has a certain charm and spirit toward life itself about him that cannot and should not be overlooked. Of course, I did not know him personally, and therefore I can only speak about the brief glimpses that I've had of his talent and his general demeanor, which clearly does not make a whole life.
However, there was one celebrity who spoke of Heath shortly after his death whose words stood out from many of the countless other celebrities who have said some very positive things about Heath. Specifically, the words of actor John Travolta seemed to act as one isolated example that showed how much Heath was liked and admired by those who knew him. OK! Magazine reports:
"He was not only of the greatest actors but also my favorite actor," John told OK! at the opening night ceremonies of G'Day USA: Australia Week 2008. "I am devastated" Through tears, the Hairspray star confessed, "I would give back all my awards and nominations just to have him back... I and other actors need other actors to be inspired by. [Heath] was my actor.""
Despite Travolta sounding horribly vain talking about how he would trade his awards for a life, what is important here is the inspiration that Heath clearly infused in others, and regardless of who is inspired by another human, it is he who inspires who must be unconditionally admired and revered. It is always a tragedy in this world when someone who inspires others leaves us... and, clearly, Heath was a profound inspiration to many. Our sincerest thoughts and condolences are with Heath's family and friends.
