Despite being banned from entering the United States to attend the Grammy awards last night, troubled singer Amy Winehouse still won five of the six Grammys for which she was nominated. OK! Magazine reports:
The 24-year-old singer was initially denied a visa to enter the U.S. because of her admitted use of narcotics, though that ban was later lifted, clearing the way for Amy to travel to L.A. for the Grammys. However, she ultimately decided to perform live via Satellite from London.
In all, Amy won five of the six awards for which she was nominated: Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best New Artist, Best Female Pop Performance, Best Pop Vocal Album. Her only lost came in the night's biggest category — and biggest surprise — Album of the Year, which saw jazz legend Herbie Hancock become the first jazz artist to take home this award in 43 years.
Winehouse accepted the award via satellite and thanked her parents and her husband Blake Fielder- Civil, who is currently in a British jail for allegedly interfering in a police investigation into an assault."
Ahh, this is great for the kids, it really is. I mean, now they know that they can be menaces to society, act like absolute raving lunatics, smoke crack on videotape, and still win 5 Grammys in one year. That's a beautiful thing. What a role model Amy is... I mean, I bet their are little twelve-year-old girls with great singing talent going up to their voice coaches and saying... "I really like the progress I've made so far, coach... but if I had a little crack to smoke, I really think I'd end up where I'd like to be as an artist." Now, with Amy winning like this, you can't really argue with it... voice instructors and managers all across the world are going to have to seriously consider the use of crack in the training and managing processes of young talent. After all, it worked for Amy, and you can't really argue with history!
