Remember back when it was a big story that Eva Mendes checked into rehab presumably because of her own substance abuse problems? Yea, well, it turns out she might have just gone to rehab to do research for an upcoming movie role! Star Magazine reports:
Eva Mendes shocked friends and fans when she checked herself into celebrity rehab center Utah's Cirque Lodge in January. At the time, her rep said that the 30-year-old actress was "proactively attending to some personal issues." Flash forward four months: Eva has signed on to play a Spanish drug lord in the upcoming drama Queen of the South.
Was Eva's stay simply for research? Prominent Hollywood acting coach John Kirby tells Star that he wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. "It's not unusual at all for an actor or actress to go to the extreme of checking into rehab to prepare for a character," says Kirby."

Dammit! If this is true, Eva Mendes had me fooled all along! That means she's smart, deceptive, AND sexy! You know what, though, I kind of liked it when I thought she went to rehab because she was a substance abuser... that's a way more bad ass story than just going there for "research." Ahh well, I bet she makes one sexy drug lord in this movie though!
