Jessica Simpson has a country album coming out on September 9th, and in order to win over some fans in her new genre, Jess opened for country favorite Sara Evans this past Saturday in Randall, Wisconsin.
Unfortunately for Jess, her performance was met with a mixed response, and many audience members could be heard booing. During the set, an obviously frustrated Simpson addressed the crowd (from US Magazine):
Country fans know how to treat their women right, and they’re extremely loyal to artists once they’ve broken through. Taylor Swift’s next album could be her coughing into the microphone for an hour and it would still sell a million copies, because that’s just how country fans operate.
The flip side of that, however, is that country fans hate outsiders, and it doesn’t get any more outside than Jessica Simpson. Her using the third person isn’t going to help either. Plus, she brought Tony Romo to the concert, and that’s not going to go over well in Packers country.
Give it time though, and I think most country fans will warm up to Jess. She’s a hot blond, she can actually sing, she wears big belt buckles, and I don’t know if you’ve heard country music recently, but it basically has become the same thing as pop music. Also, when your genre includes song titles like “She Thinks My Tractor is Sexy,” you can only be so critical.
