I’ve heard more about Miley Cyrus in the past month than I had in all of 2007, when she was the #1 concert draw in the world. I was starting to think she was annoying, but today, all that changed when I found a video of Miley that was recently posted to YouTube.
The video shows Miley and her friend Mandy mocking fellow Disney stars Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato.
That probably sounds incredibly rude and bitchy, and that’s because it is. But… it’s also hilarious.
The video is below. Just in case Disney storms the YouTube offices like the Joker storming a Bruce Wayne party and demands the video be pulled, I’ll explain: Basically, Selena and Demi recorded a video to fans, goofing around and telling people about upcoming events. Then Miley and her friend made fun of them, repeating every line in the most condescending way possible, and throwing in a bunch of emo jokes for good measure. The YouTube video is spliced so that it cuts back and forth from Selena to Miley. You get a nice, sincere line from Selena and friend, followed by a catty, condescending line from Miley.
As you may know, rumors have been going around that Selena Gomez was set to take Miley’s place as Disney’s golden child. After Miley’s controversial Vanity Fair pictures, there was word that Disney execs wanted a newer, more wholesome star, and Selena’s name was mentioned more than once. It’s also rumored that Selena is dating Miley’s ex-boyfriend, Nick Jonas. Also, Sarah told me that Jessica told her that she overheard Mark telling Jenn in Social Studies that Selena said Miley was “so overrated.” So, you know, there’s a lot of history there.
I bet you Miley doesn’t even dislike Selena, she’s just sick of being compared to her. I had a similar thing happen when I was in high school. One day I wore the same American Eagle shirt as this kid Steve. Someone said, “hey you guys are twins!” I proceeded to chain Steve to a locker, rip the shirt off, douse it in gasoline and set it on fire, yelling “WHO’S A TWIN NOW??!!!.” The whole school went up in flames and we had to finish the rest of the year in a nearby barn. In hindsight, I may have overreacted. But hey, YouTube wasn’t around back then so what was I supposed to do?
