Comic-Con: It’s not just for nerds anymore!
Now it’s 98% nerds, and 2% celebrities. Some of the attendees making up the latter group at the 2008 Comic-Con -- held this past weekend in San Diego this past weekend -- included Hugh Jackman, Mark Wahlberg, Keanu Reeves, Jennifer Connelly, Rose McGowan, Hayden Panettiere and Samuel L. Jackson.
Everyone was promoting an upcoming project, mostly in the action movie genre.
Wahlberg and Mila Kunis were on hand to promote “Max Payne”; Keanu and Connelly for “The Day the Earth Stood Still”; McGowan and director Robert Rodriguez for “Red Sonja”; Samuel L. for the hilariously-titled “Afro Samurai”; and Panettiere of course for the show “Heroes,” which begins its new season soon.
However, all of these things paled in comparison to the big event of Comic-Con ’08, which was the unveiling of the trailer for “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.” Hugh Jackman was there for the event, and the crowd went insane. As usual, people were armed with their cell phone cameras to bootleg the clip.
You can watch the grainy footage below.
Listen to how crazy everyone goes at the end of the clip. I’m not even sure people would cheer that loud if they unveiled the cure for cancer. Of course, in fairness, the cure for cancer doesn’t include a CGI-laden fight scene between Wolverine and Sabretooth. Although I think it involves chromosomes and shark cartilage, which would make a pretty badass action flick in its own right.
Here are some pictures from the event…
