Brad and Angelina Baby Pictures Sell for $15 Million!

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie decided a while ago to auction off the first pictures of their new children, Knox and Vivienne, to charity. A bidding war ensued, and we finally have a winner. Two winners, actually.

People Magazine will have the American rights to the baby photos, while Hello Magazine will have international rights. The magazines paid a combined $15 million for the exclusive. People will debut the photos on its website at 7PM this Sunday night. Both the People and Hello issues with the baby pictures will hit newsstands Monday. I can feel the excitement in the pit of my stomach!! Or maybe that’s the Taco Bell I ate for lunch. Yep, definitely the Taco Bell. Here, read this quote from WWD Media while I go find some Advil:

Sources at competing titles said the value of having the photos goes beyond revenue to People’s bottom line. Having the exclusive photos of such coveted offspring gives People bragging rights over its competitors, and will generate priceless media coverage and publicity. “If they lose a million bucks, then [the loss] is equivalent to a million-dollar advertisement for the magazine,” said one competing editor."

These pictures are sure to spike traffic to People’s website and create a major stir. I know how the Internet works, and the only way this could be bigger is if they put the baby photos in some sort of list form. “The Ten Most Adorable Pictures of The Brangelina Twins!” or something like that. They could also throw in some Marissa Miller bikini pictures but that hardly seems appropriate.

You’re probably asking yourself, “Sha’miqua…” -- I’m assuming your name is Sha’miqua -- “I’m super excited about these baby pictures, but why should I buy the magazine on Monday when I can get the pictures online for free?” That’s a valid point, Sha’miqua. Of course you’ll be able to see these pictures without paying a cent, and the money from the sale of the photos is going to charity regardless of whether or not anyone purchases the issue off newsstands.

However, not only will the magazine contain higher quality glossy photos of the breathtaking Knox and Vivienne than you’ll find online, but should People turn a profit off this issue, it will encourage other celebrities and magazines to engage in similar charitable arrangements. Each new celebrity pregnancy could open doors for hundreds of impoverished third-world residents. In fact, if Megan Fox were to have a kid, the proceeds from the baby photos could single-handedly turn Darfur into a paradise. So you see, when you purchase a People Magazine next week, you’re really purchasing a brighter future for children the world over. I hope that clears things up. Great question, Sha’miqua.
