Law & Order is famous for its “ripped from the headlines” scripts that are nearly identical to stories in pop culture, but end with a big disclaimer saying, “This story is entirely fictional.” It always makes me laugh, cause it’s like “oh, that was a FICTIONAL story about a guy murdering his wife and then fleeing from police in a white Ford Bronco… of course!”
Anyway, the NBC drama is working on a new episode based on the recent arrest of Raffaello Follieri. Follieri is best known as the ex-boyfriend of actress Anne Hathaway. He was arrested in the spring on charges of money laundering and fraud, and is currently awaiting trial. From Star Magazine (via Celebitchy):
“Rafaello’s arrest was and still is all the buzz in NY City’s social circles because so many big-name types rubbed elbows with him and thought he was real,” says a source. “He was the ultimate con man: handsome, rich, smooth and with a celebrity girlfriend to make him seem legit.”
The Follieri story hasn’t exactly reached its conclusion, so I’m sure the “Law & Order” people will take great liberties when writing the ending. It should be good to see Follieri’s character -- and if he’s not played by Zack Braff I will never watch “Law & Order” again -- tunnel out of prison, kidnap Anne Hathaway, and escape on a spaceship to the moon while one of the detectives wraps thing up with a line like, “I think both of them deserve an Oscar for that performance.”
Also, it has been reported that the FBI confiscated nude photos of Hathaway during its investigation of Follieri. If you “L&O” writers could work those pictures into the script, that’d be super.
