Over $500 million in 45 days is truly incredible. As dickhead-ish as it sounds, they had the "help" of Heath Ledger's death. When one of the main actors in an already-huge movie dies, it's bound to get more attention.
That's what makes Titanic grossing over $600million even more incredible. Just imagine if they cut Leonardo Dicaprio's brake lines or put a spike through Kate Winslet's tits. It would still be winning at the box office and we could run the entire government off of Titanic proceeds alone.
