Madonna's Latest Adoption is Delayed

It seems adopting a child from Malawi isn't as easy as just storming a village, throwing one in a sack, and running out like depicted in the movies. I watch weird movies. AP reports:

The 50-year-old pop star spent about an hour in court Monday in the Malawi capital of Lilongwe. Court official Thomson Ligowe confirmed that Madonna's adoption application was adjourned until Friday but said he could not reveal any more details.

Children's advocacy groups have accused Madonna of wielding her wealth and influence to circumvent a Malawian law requiring an 18- to 24-month assessment period before adoption. David's adoption was a trying process for the singer, who has said the storm of criticism hurt.

On Monday, a coalition of non-governmental organizations criticized the pop star's latest adoption application.

"We feel Madonna is behaving like a bully," said Undule Mwakusungura, chairman of the Human Rights Consultative Committee. "She has the money and the status to use her profile to manipulate, to fast-track the process."

You know you're a freakshow whenever you can't even adopt a poor, starving, mother-less child from a suffering African nation without getting harassed for it. When the kid might be better off dying of Malaria at age 31 than living a rich life with you, there's some kind of problem.
