I haven't written much about it because it was pretty boring, but there's some case in the Bahamas involving John Travolta, his dead son, and some people who tried to make Travolta pay $25 million for private information about his son's death. Didn't work out too well, but at least they have a new trial according to AP:
Senior Justice Anita Allen said Wednesday night she was reluctantly ordering a new trial because a politician announced that one of the defendants would be freed, giving the appearance of an improper leak from the jury room.
"The dilemma that we face is great," Allen said in court. "I am erring on the side of caution. Justice must be transparent."
I'm wondering when people will realize extortion pretty much never works in situations like this. Believe me, when Billy Mays died, I told his family I would reveal that he uses Just For Men on his beard if they didn't give me $400 and a year's supply of Oxyclean. After the FBI visited me and my parents threatened to make me pay rent, I backed off. The same thing happened to that idiot who tried to extort David Letterman...more or less. It just doesn't work.
