Oprah Addresses the Abuse Scandal at Her School

Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls

Oprah Winfrey faced the media today about alleged sexual abuse charges against a dorm matron at her South African school, The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls. Specifically, the dorm matron, Virginia Mokgobo, was suspended on October 17 and was then arested on several charages including assault, indecent assualt, and soliciting under-age girls to perform indecent acts. She has been released on bail today. Oprah acknowledged the abuse incident on FOX News with the following words:

This has been one of the most devastating, if not the most devastating experience, of my life."

However, Oprah has taken this experience as an opportunity to move forward in a positive manner. She said:

with all such experiences there is always much to be gained and i think there is a lot to be learned... we are moving forward to create a safe and open, and a receptive environment to the girls."

Furthermore, Oprah assures that nothing will stand in the way of her vision to create provide her students with the necessary environment to reach their full potential. Specifically, she said:

No one, not the accused, nor any persons can destroy the dream that I have held and the dream that each girl continues to hold for herself at this school."

Along with this incident, Oprah admits that other devastating moments in her life include trying really hard to sound exceptionally intelligent when she speaks and somehow unexplainably resembling the physical appearance of some sort of overweight frog. She does seem pretty determined to resolve this issue, though... not because it's bad publicity for her and her school. Nope, not at all. It's because she cares.
