Nicole Richie and Joel Madden threw a surprise baby shower for dozens of mothers in need at the L.A. Free Clinic yesterday. They were inspired to help because of the anticipated birth of their own baby. OK! Magazine says:

Of course they had looks of shock and disbelief on their faces! They were thinking to themselves, wait a minute, these idiots are going to help me with my pregnancy, I hope they don't touch anything and inadvertently kill my baby. But, of course, being human, their next thought was: "Well, they are giving me free stuff, I'll take everything they got!" Which is pretty much how it goes with celebrities. Like when they go down to Africa for humanitarian work, you just know that the natives are thinking to themselves: "Don't infect me with your weird Western skank diseases! Oh, you have free pasty rice for me!?!? I'll take it!" Ahh, celebrities... such kind and accommodating humans, aren't they?
