Keira Knightley

Keira Knightley doesn't want to be a role model and she hates the idea of role models in general. The UK's Daily Mail reports:

Speaking to America's Interview magazine, which carries the pictures, Keira, who has frequently spoken of her exasperation at the media's obsession with her weight, again talks about her body image. Asked whether she felt responsible for girls becoming anorexic, she answered: "No because I have no control over it. You could say 'You're responsible for girls being anorexic because you are thin', but I can't be anything I'm not. I don't believe in role models. I don't believe that any person can be put up there as being better than any other person... Personally, I think I have the right to make as many mistakes as I like without having to feel guilty about a young girl going 'Wow, you're making that mistake, so should I'. People are cleverer than that.""

Keira has continually claimed that she's not anorexic and she is simply naturally thin because of her genetics -- she has said that both her mother and father are also very thin. So, if that really is the case, I don't think we can really blame Keira for simply being who she is. However, perhaps we can blame her for saying "I don't believe in role models," show in the above quote. Maybe there is some responsibility that Keira must take on, knowing the influence of her celebrity. Young children throughout the world admire her and will continue to admire her based on her celebrity and her performance in movie roles that are easily accessible to children, i.e. Pirates of the Caribbean.

Specifically, one could argue that regardless of her desire to shun such responsibility, it may in fact be that she, along with many other Hollywood actors and actresses, simply are in a position in life that makes it impossible for such responsibility to be shunned. Thus, although Keira may indeed be exceptionally thin by nature, perhaps it is her responsibility to use the suspicions that her fans have about her weight as an opportunity to educate the public with the truth about her situation. She could then use such truths as a platform to discuss the dangers of eating disorders in our modern social setting filled with social pressures and lead her young fans in a safer direction. In the end, maybe Keira's celebrity cannot be something that she can turn on and off as she pleases, but rather, along with her the rewards of celebrity, she must embrace the responsibility that comes along with it.

Wow look at me being all serious and pro-social. Saying things like that, I'm so philanthropic, I'm almost like Gandhi. I'm pretty much one act of civil disobedience away from being the Mahatma!.. only way more handsome, of course. Anyway, enough thoughts. Check out Keira being hot in her boyish figure at the premiere for her new movie Atonement in Los Angeles last night:
